| I have been separated from my husband for almost 2 yrs (not legally sep). He has a history of domestic violence against me. I had an order of protection a year ago. He is an alcoholic, currently not attending meetings and possiblly not sober. He is becoming more anger with me and now he wants to divorce me. Thank God. My question is...Do I have to hire an attorney (he apparently has), I can not afford to spend a lot on legal fees. I am currently unemployed and I am taking care of my 3 sons alone. If I can obtain a divorce in a short period of time, my life will improve a great deal. We do own the house together, which I am living in. He is living with his family. Thank you for responding |

| Most States Have Free State Supported Legal Help Available For Guidance, Listed Under "Attorneys" in the Yellow Pages. Start There, And Gather All Records, Police Reports, Journals, If You Have Them, And Any Information You May Have. He May Not Be Serious About D-i-v-o-r-c-e, but at least for a short time, try the "oh, no, not divorce" approach. You may find him more co-operative in gaining information from him as to what HIS Plans Are. He May "telegraph" his intent, giving you advance notice of what he's about to try. It may be a ploy to get you to be "nice". Let Him Show His Hand, and Work it against him. Good Luck, Keep the boys Safe!!!!. If drinking is part of the problem, he's unpredictable, at best. Wish You Well. |
