I have been told that one can place an announcement in any newspaper, let it run for a week, and if it goes uncontested by spouse you are automatically divorced. This is in Texas. Has anyone any idea whether this is fact or fiction?

If you have no idea where your spouse is, then I believe this is true.

I don't think it makes you automatically divorced. However, it does let you proceed with a divorce when the spouse can not be located. Then of course you win everything automatically by default.

Sounds a little strange to me .. If you file for Divorce in Oklahoma, and you have no idea where your spouse lives, you must publish at least 3 times in the newspaper in the County where they last resided, then you can go to Court and ask for the Judge to give you a Default Divorce. No Divorce is Legal without a Divorce Decree. And No Divorce Decree is Legal until it is signed by a Judge and Filed with the Court.
