The biological father of my daughter has all of a sudden taken an interest. She is 16 months old. Is there anyway to keep him from interrupting our lives? We live in Colorado and he isn't on her birth certificate. We did the DNA test, but other than that he has been uninvolved financially or otherwise.

If he wants to.. and of course if the DNA test shows he is the father, then he can get court ordered visitation. However, he will also have to pay child support.

Do not give him anything until he starts legal proceding.. after that, file for child support and to begin with, supervised visitation and no overnight stays until the child is at least x years old.

Oh.. do you have a court ordered custody agreement ??.. if not, get one before you allow him anywhere near the child.

:) SMILE - Start Making It Livable for Everyone

Divorce is a process over which children have no control. Children should not be its victims.
When parents are under stress, it is harder to be in touch with their children's pain and anguish.
It takes time, effort, and planning on the part of the parents to be able to provide for the children's needs.
In the crisis of divorce, parents may put their children on hold while they attend to adult problems first.
Sometimes separating/divorced parents find that their roles and expectations are undefined and cloudy.
If handled properly, divorce need not be devastating for children.

OK, but here's the kicker. My husband, though not the biological father, is on her birth certificate and has accepted all responsibilty for her. Does that change things?

If a DNA test proves he is the father then a court will order a change on the b/c and give him the same rights as most non custodial parents.
