| In GA. An ex-girlfriend gave birth to our baby boy 4 months ago. We are getting on fine but living separately. We are trying to - amicably I might add - work through the legal mire of child support, visitation etc. I have been giving her money every month despite there being no legal agreement yet. I have agreed to admit paternity. I had my lawyer draw up papers to that effect in the interests of expediency. Ex-girlfriend's lawyer has drawn up the proper papers however, ones that will be sent to a judge I think. Ex-girlfriend informed me today that a sheriff's deputy will serve me with the paternity papers at my office. I do not believe for one minute that as a willing recipient of these papers I have to suffer the embarrassment of being a senior member of staff chased down in my own office, in front of my staff, by representatives of the local law enforcement. My question is simple, is there another way for me to sign these papers or receive them? My lawyer says yes, Ex-girlfriend's lawyer says no, that this is the only way it can be done. |

[/b]

My response: There's always alternatives, especially when a spouse is not going to fight matters. However, since your ex's attorney wants to be narrow minded about this, tell her - -"Fine, go ahead and embarrass me. But, if you do, be aware also that life gets pretty difficult when I say NO to everything you'll ever ask for. I've got a long memory. Get used to it."
