Judge said in open court "respondent (ex-wife)to pay $4,000 lump sum directly to IU for the school year 2000/2001 for (daughter's name)college expenses."
Question: Should my attorney have asked the judge, at that time, "by when (date) is payment or payments to be made by respondent (ex-wife)?"

The order or the judge usually stipulates when the child support is supposed to be paid by. Seeing that it's a lump sum for the school year of 2000/2001, then that sum should be paid to be used for that school year.

I will try to give you general guidance and point you in the right direction, but only a lawyer licensed to practice law in YOUR state who is serving as YOUR lawyer can provide you "legal advice" to rely on.

My response:

Well, that's fine, but our writer is asking by "what date?" In other words, is the amount to be paid supposed to be paid to the school "at the beginning of the school year" or is the writer to pay the amount "up front" and then at the end of the school year, "be reimbursed" by the paying spouse?

This is the question, because in either scenario, the paying spouse is "paying" for the education - - it's just a question of "when the lump sum should be paid".
