I got married in N.Y. ten years ago.
We were separated after two years.
Since then I moved out of state.
I now live in California and we have
lost contact with each other and unable
to contact eath other.
I want to re-marry someone else.
How do I go about getting a divorce.????
What is the procedure and how long will
it take before I can re-marry and how much
will it cost me????
Thanks.

Any decent lawyer can find the other party --assuming s/he's alive. And if dead, then no divorce is needed. If alive, then if the guy agrees it is easy and fast. If not things get a bit more complicated as you have to serve the other person by publication and that is a hassle.

I assume there will be no issue about the finances. If no assets are involved, and both of you are agreeable, it can be relatively quick and cheap. As you now live in CA get the copy of your separation agreement (if there is one) and contact a California divorce attorney from AttorneyPages.com and say that you and he have split up 8 years ago, no contact since, there is a written separation agreement (if there is one), no children, no financial issues. Ask if this is something the lawyer handles. If yes, ask, assuming that it is non-contested, apart from the cost of locating him, how are your fees determined? and What do you expect it would cost?
