Thumbs down

recently after a 5year relationship, we have gone our separate ways. However I own the house on my own that this man lived in for the last 4 years. Without any legal documentation he decided to add some home improvement to my house which included a deck, a heat pump and a few extra things here and there. As I said he did this on his own. Now that we have split, he is trying to sue me for X amount of dollars for these improvements. Is there any legal ties that he can bind me to. or is this just a guy with a broken heart and wants to get back at me?
