My son goes to elementary school. Every time there is a field trip, the school requires parents to sign waiver releasing school from liability if something would happen to kids. If I sign this waiver, do I have any legal rights in case something goes wrong and my child is injured? Should I refuse to sign this kind of waiver?
Thank you

I beleive that is what the waiver is for. If something should happen, they can't be held liable for accidents. If you don't sign the waiver, be prepared for your child to not attend the field trip.

My response:

This type of procedure goes back for years and years. Even way back into the "Stone Ages" when I was a little rug rat.

Suffice it to say, by signing such a permission slip, you would be waiving all of yours, and your child's, rights to sue for any negligence; e.g., a bus accident, slip and fall, or any other negligence.

This is standard procedure. Otherwise, your child will not be able to attend the outing.
