shared parenting

i have been divorced for over a year. previously i had sole custody of our three children, ages 10, 7, 4 . wv adopted some new laws regarding custody recently. he now has asked for shared parenting. the lawmaster sent us to a mediator to come up with an agreement. the mediator suggested one week here and one week there. is this plan the best for our children? are there other options? what might the lawmaster order if i dont agree to the shared parenting ? How much will this affect child support. i would appreciate any information regarding this subject .
