I have a 3 year old son. His biological father has not seen him in a year and a half. The only support I have recieved in 2 years was one check because he was on unemployment. I have no contact with him (I don't even know where he is). I repeatedly try to go through the court system to contact him for support with no luck. I would like to find out how to terminate his parental rights. I plan to get married soon and my fiance would like to adopt my son. If anybody could give me some information on how to go about this please help. I live in Michigan.

How long since you have any contact with him and last knew his whereabouts ?

Sorry for stating the obvious.. but you will need to see an attorney to get this started. I would need to check later when I am in the office, but I believe that MI has the standard 1 year with no contact/support for you to be able to start adoption proceding.

Best thing to do is contact a few attornies in your area and ask. They generally give upto 30 minutes free consultation and will be able to answer you question quickly.

What county are you in ?

It has been a year and a half since I had last contact with him. I live in the US. I do know his last address which is his parents house. Every time the court sends anything there they send it back. He had a warrant for back child support but for some reason the court dropped it. I hear from people we both knew that ran into him he now owns his own business. Yet he still doesn't attempt to pay support or get visitation.
