termination of parental rights

I was told that if one parent didn't have any contact with their child, or pay any child support for 6 months their parental rights could be terminated. Is this true? I live in North Carolina.

Dear Tatumn:
In most states, it takes one year of no contact and no support to constitute "abandonment". If you want to check NC law to verify, go to https://law.freeadvice.com/resources/statelaws.htm. It will probably be under something called Welfare and Institutions Code; possibly under Family Law.
