Tiffany, if you never signed papers at City Hall, registering your relationship as Common Law, then you're not married. When it comes to Cops, you can be sure they know nothing about Civil Law, and only a little about Criminal Law. If you never registered at City Hall, you're relationship amounts to "Shacking Up" and nothing more. No divorce necessary.
