Virginia child support formula??

Does anyone know the exact formula for figuring child support in VA? Does it have anything to do with how often each parent has the children? I am curious because the last time I was in court I was told I could have my children an "extra" day (Tuesdays), and that it would be an "understanding" but we would not put it in the court orders. Is there a reason this was done this way?
