What do I do with them now?

I received custody of two children after their mother lost them due to neglect/abuse. Mother lives in AL. Father lives in MS. Father and I share custody, I have primary physical custody. We do not reside together. I'm stationed in MS in the Navy. I'm due to be discharged soon. If I chose to leave this state and go home, what do I do with them then? Can I take them with me, or do I turn them over to the state?
