I need to know what my options are and help researching child support and visitation laws of Illinois. My husband and I got married in 1997 and a son born in 1998. My husband was court ordered to pay $118 a month to his ex in 1996. When he got a raise he voluntarily raised it to $150. He is in the military and so is his ex's husband. She 2 more kids, we just have the 1. She does not hold a job. The military has a pay for dependents, has housing pay, etc. Our living standards are about the same. My husband tries to call his daughter who is now 7, twice a week and asking for visitation occasionally because it wasn't spelled out. Now we have been to court, she lied on the stand about the visitation requests and the child support has doubled to $400 a month, we can't afford this! We have enough money to pay bills and that's all. On top of that my husband was admonished for not having much contact with his daughter and granted 4 weekends a year plus one week this year and 2 weeks next year. The judge didn't want to be there, our lawyer didn't do a good job and we are strapped. What can we do? I'm new at this and have no idea where to look, is the court decison fair? Can we appeal? Any other internet sites I can get into to help increase my knowledge? HELP?!? |
