Question

Well, to make long story short, re: child support.....long ago, the dad was ordered to pay so much money and visitation was split up. Later, ex did not like having so much personal time taken up and having to pay. I agreed to half of the support money....later, I remarried and moved an hour away, so set visitation was not feasible due to school, etc and first concern from him was of course, the extra child support.....I did not change this, but over the years, lack of contact on and off for months with not even a phone call unless I instigated it thru child,,,,It was always more a matter of convenience for him when he wanted to get with our child (i.e., would call on a Thursday night and want the child for the weekend or holiday, regardless of what we or she had planned). The only times she really wanted to go or ask to go was when it was birthday time or Christmas (children want things you know)....things got progressively worse over time,,,,,and I requested that he at least set up a 6 month schedule and then if something came up, they could communicate a change together and that he should call at least once a week.....well, the calendar idea lasted 6 months or 3 weekend visits and no phone calls. Had requested more child support per court order verbally, but just got verbal abuse over the phone, then I requested it in writing or I would go to court and probably be awarded more.....The checks then increased, but just typical interference when raising the child came up, when he would get involved maybe 6-8 months intervals, (and the teen years can be trying without that)....Anyway, I finally did go the D.A.'s office for back arrearages (only the difference between what was awarded and what was paid),,,,Now, he has gotten an attorney and supposedly, a court date is set for them to meet with Deputy D.A. to determine amount of arrears (apparently, a property lien was put on him for "abstract of judgement" of the entire amount plus interest, until adjustment was made). I have not been sent anything except notification he got attorney.....What should I expect now??

Angry

first, why are you so hung up on the money issue? If having a couple of thousand in your pocket is what you want then get a job!

partyofsix26, I believe over the years I bent over backwards to try and keep a real relationship going between he and our child without the respect deserved for raising a very well-rounded young adult. I think because of this, and the verbal criticism and an "I can get away with anything and you can't do anything about it" attitude, I believe it is to really hold him responsible for what was originally agreed upon thru the courts.....believe me, it was very little to begin with, but more principle at this point.....I have always been the custodial parent and really full-time and as you are aware I'm sure spend more to make sure your children are well taken care of than your ex......
