I live in Indiana. I was divorced in Oct of 1997. I filed for divorce in May of 1997. I was sued in small claims court for delinquent school fees for a step-child for the school years of 1997-1998 and 1998-1999. Since I was never informed of any procedings in court, I did not appear, so I was found in default. Once I found out about them, it was too late. Not totally to late, I am appealing the decisions, but my court date is in 3 weeks and I need the proper amunition to take to court with me. AM I RESPONSIBLE for the debts? If not where do I find the laws that state my case? Thank You

Look up Your State Family Codes, ask an attorney.

I have looked up my state family codes. And nowhere do I see anything about an ex-stepparent. I guess ex-stepparents are not included in family law. But thank you so much for your tremendous amount of help.
