30 or 31 days to enroll a newborn in a HMO family planWhat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California. I would like to know if a child was born in a month such as July where there is 31 days, does this newborn have coverage under the mom's policy (her benefit) for the entire month or just the first 30 days of his life? In this case the child was born on July 1. The child was sick and was hospitalize from July 27-31. Does the insurance company have the right to denied the child's coverage on the 31st of July? ![]() |

| 30 days following a qualifying event. The number of days in a month are irrelevent, if he was born on July 2nd or any other day, you would have the same 30 days. And the baby is not covered under mom's policy except for the original nursery charges. After that, he must be enrolled within 30 days or he will have NO COVERAGE back to the date of birth. |
