Affordable coverage for girlfriend who has 2 DUI's and has been to rehab

What is the name of your state? PA

Does anyone know of some affordable insurance plans with copays that my girlfriend would be accepted for with 2 DUI's and drug rehab in her past? She's trying to keep it under $300 a month with around $20 copay for doctors visits and $20 copay for prescriptions.

Thanks!
Alex

Ok we have and really haven't found anything except one company. But they're saying it's $250 a month and the doctors visits would be a copay of $50 and you're only allowd 5 a year. Our doctor is $30 a visit if you don't have insurance. Doesn't sound like a very good plan to me but maybe the benefit of being covered in an emergency (not sure what the plan covers) is good.

I was just wondering if there were any specific insurance companies that tailor to people in her situtation.

Thanks for the replys.

It is going to be expensive. Your friend doesn't like to play by the rules. However, this a legal advice site, not a referral service.

That is quite unlikely to happen. And if she finds it, I hope she'll tell me where.

Don't buy a copay plan.... it's a ripoff. You are just prepaying for it, in your monthly premium, regardless of whether or not you go.

If you can get an individual plan, get a high deductible plan at the very least, HSA compatible plan even better.

With her history, she may have trouble getting qualified due to the problems you mentioned. Fill out some apps and send them in to a couple of carriers.

Go to ehealthinsurance.... and get quotes for her. Here is a link to a sample I did using Pittsburgh's zip code and 39 year old female who smokes... lots of options....

Keep in mind, those are the BEST rates you could expect, and with her issues, they will likely be quite a bit higher, if she is accepted at all. Good luck.

She wants a copay plan, not a high deductible plan.

Copay plans are good for people who know that they go to the doctor frequently. High deductible plans are good for people who rarely if ever go to the doctor, and just want catastrophic coverage.

Do what you want.... I'm just pointing out that you are going to pay a lot more in premium for a copay plan than it's worth. But, it's your money.

I used to underwrite individual health ins. applications. You don't mention when the 2 DUI's were or when she went through drug rehab - it could make a difference to a company's decision. We considered each case on an individual basis. We most likely would decline on her total hx or offer rated coverage if all over 5 yrs. ago after taking all other underwriting factors into consideration. However, the hx you posted doesn't look good (2 DUI's + drug rehab) - if she can find a co. that will insure her for an individual pol., she might want to take it no matter what the cost. I don't think she will get a lot of offers. (particularly if histories within past 5 yrs.) She certainly can shop around.
