Cancelling Health Insurance

TX, 4 months ago my wife decided to obtain insurance through her company. Two months ago I lost my job and have yet to find another one so our sole income is hers the only thing is the insurance is taking a whopping 70% of her paycheck. We are struggling and at this rate we stand to lose everything. She has tried contacting the insurance company they of course directed her to her benefits department and they keep giving us the run-around its either you have to purchase another insurance policy.... then its it has to be from a group insurance from another job or your spouses employer.... or the all-time favorite you had 30 days from the start of your coverage to cancel your policy... My question..long story short..is there anyway to cancel the policy or more importantly is there anything we can do to at least limit the amount there taking out.

The only time you can add or drop coverage on this type is during open enrollment, or within 30 days of a qualifying event. So if you get a new job, and add her onto your coverage through that job, then she can drop the coverage through her job, as long as she does so within 30 days. But it can't be dropped at will. When she signed up for the coverage, she did so for a year except in the case of a qualifying event.

And this is Federal law, not the employer being obstructionist.
