COBRA or Not

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

I recently resigned from my job to start my own business. I have until end of next month to continue on COBRA. However, I am worried if I develop a pre-existing condition while on COBRA I will not be able to get individual health insurance later (COBRA is only for 18 months). Should I continue COBRA or look for my own insurance?

Thank you,

DomoLA

Why do you think that it will be different if you get an individual policy now?

Hi,

Oh I thought if I get an individual policy now it will cover me for more than the 18 months COBRA does. Am I wrong? I never had individual insurance so I do not know what is involved...do they evaluate you every year?

Thank you.

Individual insurance will last as long as you pay the premiums.

Sorry, I misread your post. I thought you said you already had a pre-existing condition.

So what is it that makes you think you're going to develop a pre-existing condition within the next 18 months?
