continuous coverage required for pre-existing condition?

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? VA

Would there be any benefit in purchasing COBRA insurance from the previous employer to cover a 1 week lapse between jobs for pre-existing conditions?

Not necessary, a break in coverage must be more then 63 days before a pre-existing limitation can be imposed.
