deceased spouse and insurance problem

What is the name of your state? Georgia

I am engaged to marry a man who was widowed in 2001 in Maryland. She was insured by her employer; however, the hospital billing department filed some things incorrectly and requested payment. My fiance refused, stating that it was the job of the insurance company. In fact, as a government employee, there should have been no question; but the hospital got it wrong.

Just last week, he was denied a credit card. We are requesting an explanation. If the cause is the unpaid bills, what can we do about it?
