Dental Health InsuranceWhat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Connecticut We forgot to purchase dental insurance for my three year old daughter for my husbands work. Since we didn't know, she had her yearly dental appt. and we were billed over $300 dollars. Is there anything we can do? We have Cigna dental and have already spoken to Human Resources at my Husbands company with no sucess. I jsut cna't believe we can't just pay for 3-4 months of prorated insurance and then go from there... Thank you for your adviceWhat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? |

| Then believe it. Because of the pre-tax status, Federal law dictates when you can and cannot add and subtract dependents from a plan. If you "forgot" to add your daughter, then your employer MAY NOT LEGALLY let you add her retroactively several months later without being in violation of Federal law. Look up Section 125 of the IRS code if you want verification. The HR people at your husband's company know what the law says and are following it. You will have another opportunity to add your daughter at the next open enrollment. But no, there is NOTHING you can do to add her to your insurance now and have the bill you have already incurred paid for. Expensive lesson to learn - I'll bet you don't forget next year! |
