Dental work done under Ex's insurance.

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Tx

My wife and I recently split up. Were still married. I had some Dental work done a couple weeks ago under her insurance. She says she needs the marrige lisc. so I wont be stuck with the bill.

My questions is this: Would Ibe stuck with this $2000. bill if Ididnt get the lisc. or her? Also is there a way that she could make it go under my name and S.S.#?

Thank you.

The work was done on you - it's your responsibility to pay. Of course, your wife may have responsibility as your spouse - but not as a function of you attempting to utilize her insurance.

Whether you can get her insurance put under your name and SSN depends on the terms of the plan. Where I work, we would allow that ONLY if you were divorced, she was under a court order to provide you with health insurance AND she had remarried. ALL THREE conditions would have to exist before we would permit it. Other employers might have other conditions. Or not permit it at all.

Who has the marriage license has nothing to do with who is responsible for the bill as far as the law is concerned. I suspect her employer or her insurance company is confirming that you are still an eligible dependent under the plan. Which is their right.

If the insurance does not pay for any reason, you not only can but will be responsible for the bill. She has no legal responsibility to pay for services that were rendered to you, regardless of whose name the insurance is under. So if they want to see the marriage license before they pay, I suggest you provide it.
