Dependent Health Coverage

I live in Miami,Fl and work for CVS/CAREMARK. For the past few years I have covered my son, currently a full-time college student. He was born June, 1985. I was informed that I can no longer claim him as a dependent on my health plan because of his age. Is this true? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

That's entirely a matter of the insurance company's policy. It's not a legal matter.

It is true if that's what your health insurance policy says. But it would not be even remotely unusual. On many policies he would have aged off over a year ago.

Actually, here in Florida, they have extended coverage up to age 30 for dependents. Thank you Charlie Crist for that one. Now, HOW they handle it might differ.

I'm making out like a bandit with BCBS - I'm covering the older students now. From what the insurance agent told us, Aetna and United Healthcare handle it a bit differently. I have the older ones under the employee and children plan. I was told the other ones have to offer the insurance, but NOT necessarily at that more discounted rate.
