Doctor said they accept my insurance now are billing me becuase they don'tWhat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Indiana I have the new HIP insurance through the state of indiana. I chose a doctor that said they accept my insurance. I have seen the doctor several times and have never been told they do not accept my insurance, now several visits later, they said they do not accept the insurance and are sending me outrageous bills for the visits I have had. Is there anything I can do or am I responsible for these bills? |

| You are responsible for the bills. The correct person to ask if a doctor is contracted with your insurance is NOT the doctor, it's the INSURANCE COMPANY.

| Rule of thumb: Do not ask a doctor, "Do you accept such and such insurance?" The answer will always be yes because what that means is, if x insurance sends you a check, will you cash it? The correct way to get the answer you need is, "Are you a participating member of XYZ's HMO/PPO/POS network?" Not holding you responsible for not knowing this - just passing on a tip for the future. |
