drop my insurance and get coverd by spouseWhat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Georgia It's open enrolement time again. My wife and I are both employeed with 2 children. Can I elect to drop my insurance that is partially sponsored by my company and be fully covered on my wife's? I was under the impression that if my company offered insurance that I must take it and could not be fully covered by my wife's policy. Both would be UHC PPO. Mine is low monthly payment high deductible hers is copay with higher monthly payments. |

| It is perfectly acceptable to be covered under your wife's policy and turn down your employer's policy. Just make sure that you can be added to your wife's policy at this time. Have her get the paperwork and fill it out now and talk to her HR staff to know the exact rules. |

| The law says you can drop and/or add coverage during open enrollment. However you must read the policy details for both plans. Your wife's policy may not cover spouses who decline coverage through their own employers (this isn't super-common, but it's possible). But in theory, this can certainly be done. Remember that open enrollment is now, but the changes probably won't take effect until January.

| I was under the impression that if my company offered insurance that I must take it and could not be fully covered by my wife's policy. There is no LAW that says so. It is not impossible that one or both policies has language to that effect. |
