Getting Married....will I need proof of previous insurance?

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Wisconsin

I'm getting married in April. I declined to take out insurance through my employer for the past 4 years due to high premiums. My concern is if I will have to show proof of "continual coverage" in order to go on his insurance. I don't know if this has changed with the new HIPPAA act, but if I remember correctly, that used to be required, otherwise, pretty much everything would be considered a "pre-existing condition". I'm hoping that all I'll have to do is send a copy of our marriage certificate to his insurance....who knows if it'll be as easy as that.

Thanks for any info.....I know, I know....I should have taken out the insurance...I was just darn lucky I didn't have any health issues.

You will be able to go on his insurance, definitely. Group policies can't exclude individuals who are otherwise eligible for coverage because of health reasons. However, IF his policy has a pre-existing condition exclusion, then any conditions you may have been treated for within a certain period of time (past year I think) can be excluded from coverage for up to 12 months. The only condition that can NEVER be considered pre-existing is pregnancy. But you will definitely be covered for anything new that comes up. And it's not very common (in my experience anyway) for group policies to even HAVE pre-existing limitations anymore, because of the high administrative cost to maintain them, for only a limited savings (12 months is not very long). And if you haven't had any health issues for which you've had any diagnosis or treatment recently, you have no worries about pre-existing conditions anyway! So relax and enjoy your wedding
