HIPPA violation?

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Tennessee

Here is the situation:

I found out I was pregnant approximately 1 month ago. I advised my direct manager and my general manager to find out about maternity leave and such. A week ago, one of my co-workers approached me asking me when I was going to tell her. Apparently, she was told by her department manager (who is not my direct manager or general manager). I personally wanted to wait until after 12 weeks, as this can be a delicate time in pregnancy, especially since I am over 30. To complicate things, I haven't told my parents yet for the same reason, and this particular manager's husband works with a member of my family. She has told the husband as well, and who knows if this has circulated the family yet. I certainly FEEL that my privacy has been violated, but in the eyes of the law has it? My company offers insurance, but conviently "forgets" to get the application to people in a timely manner. I signed up for the coverage, but as it was given to me to late, have to wait until open enrollment. Therefore, I have state insurance.

It's HIPAA (Health Information Portability and Accountability Act), not HIPPA. Your employer is not a covered entity, so HIPAA is not an issue.

Congratulations on your pregnancy. Make sure you get insurance through your employer as soon as open enrollment begins.
