I am looking for some help on a Credit/Insurance issue I am having. I was hospitalized about 1 year ago and did not have any health insurance at the time because of a job change. I was sent a couple of bills for the visit and had paid all of them right away. I recieved another bill three days ago with an outstanding balance. I looked into why I was not notified about this bill sooner and was told that they sent a bill to me 4 times within the past year. I was a little skeptical of that. They gave me dates of the sent items and informed me that they could send me copies of the bill's. The bill was for 400 dollars and was for the actual doctor. I looked over my records and found that I did not recieve a bill from the doctor. OK I can't get back the loss of time for the bill and in considering that there is a possibility of the bills being misplaced (4 times!!) in the mail I agreed to pay it. I was told by the hospital that this would not affect my credit in any way. That is part of the reason why I did not argue it more. When I called the debt collector, they informed me that this can do heavy damage to my credit. Now the bill is paid and clean and I am wondering what the truth is hear. Does anyone know the truth. If the bill went to collections, it could be on your credit report; you should get your credit report and check. If there is an item on the report about this bill, you can file a dispute with the credit reporting agencies.
