Bad situation. Received letter from Union on 12/1/06 about group losing coverage effective 1/1/07. Union had no other options at the time, so we used the conversion package and started paying the insurance company direct starting 1/1/07. We have a letter from the insurance company dated 12/25/06 stating we had continous coverage up until 1/1/07. Now it is 3/16/07. Numerous procedures done in December to the tune of $100K + Insurance company paid on all of the claims up until 3/6/07. Two days ago I got a call from doctors office telling me the ins. said I had no coverage for month of December. I called ins. company and they said the had received a memo from the Union on 2/28/07 with a list of members who they "retro-termed" to 12/1/06 instead of 1/1/07. Apparently the union was in such disarray they had to do an internal audit and they submitted their findings to the ins. company on the last possible day for the ins. company policy of 90 days retro policy. Contacted union and the error is theirs internally. Insurance company says it cannot do anything even if union says it is their error due to time limit. Union is in middle of lawsuit due to mismanagement of funds and the chairman who handled the insurance resigned today and they are waiting for a court appointed trustee before any decisions can be made. I am in limbo. What can I do in regards to insurance company? I never received any notice of any problem from anybody. The insurance company issued a letter stating I had coverage, they paid bills for months after, we currently have the same insurance company as we converted on 1/1/07. Please help, this is a financial nightmare!! |
