Just how much personal information do you have to provide?

What is the name of your state? IL

My employer is investigating new health insurance companies for lower premiums. As part of the process for getting quotes from companies I am being asked to provide the names of all medications I have taken during the last 12 months. Not only am I being asked to provide them to the potential insurance companies, I am being asked to copy three people in our office on this correspondence as well, the office manager, the owner (CEO) and the COO. This is a small company with less the 30 employees and I do not trust the information to be kept confidential.

One of my medications is an anti-depressent that I feel my employer has no need to know about. None of my medications are life dependant. Am I required to disclose this information to a perspective insurance company and if so, am I required to provide it to my employer also?

You are required to provide as much information as it takes for the insurance company to determine what the appropriate premium would be. You are required to provide it to the people who, in your company's structure, have a need to know.
