Medical Billing errorWhat is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Indiana We had twins in March and have had a terrible time with insurance since. I have two questions about the same thing. When they were born, our pediatrician billed incorrectly for both girls on a single day. The insurance has told me it was billed as outpatient instead of inpatient. I let the doctor's office know and they billed incorrectly again. On my insurance's website it says the time limit to file the claim has now lapsed. Would I be responsible for these charges (either full or partial) even though I've let them know about the error and gave them a chance to fix it? There is another billing error. My one daughter was breech and so they needed to do a hip ultrasound. This was after her 31 days after birth so this charge we expected to go towards the deductable. However, they billed wrong. The insurance says the patient's age doesn't match the procedure code. I have let the hospital know and the response I got was " we'll have to check and see if we can re-bill". I haven't heard anything since and no new claim has shown up with my insurance. I have no problem paying if it's done through insurance because a) it'll go towards our deductable and b) we'll only pay a dedutable on what our plan covers and not the whole amount. I just don't know where I stand legally if either a) they refuse to resumbit the claim or b) they keep making errors until the time lapses. Why do I have to pay the full amounts and not have it go towards our deductable when it's not my error and I've let them know about the error? |

| The timely filing limit only applies to the FIRST filing of the claim. They now have pretty much as much time as they need to re-bill correctly. Since the bill was originally submitted within the time limit, any future re-submissions should NOT be rejected for time limit reasons. In other words, don't worry, your doctor's billing office will figure it out eventually if they want to get paid.
