What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Iowa

First I appologize if this is the incorrect forum, I didn't know if I should put it here or collections.

I acquired my free credit report in February, on it was four medical bills through General Service Bureau for a large clinic with a total of about $1500. In February of 2010 we were in an accident. I assumed these bills were for that accident, I contacted the bureau and gave them our attorney’s information. They were removed from my credit report until about three weeks ago when the bureau called for an update. After digging into the bills it was discovered they were from 2009. They were for treatments that my wife received from the clinic.

My wife contacted the billing office last week and it they said the primary insurance denied the claim so they did not submit the claims to her second or third insurances. These bills should have been paid 100% by the insurance companies. The billing office said that they were our responsibility now.

My wife then proceeded to contact the primary insurance company, they said they requested a document from the clinic and never received it. My wife told the clinic this and they contacted the insurance company only to say that the insurance company said they didn’t receive something from us. My wife has attempted to call the insurance company to find out why they told the clinic something different, but has had no luck yet.

Yesterday my wife again talked with the billing department, they said that they could adjust two of the four, but we would have to pay two of the claims. After talking with billing, I had my wife call her specialist and explain the situation and I wanted her to get a referral for a doctor outside of that clinic. Her doctor told her that he would look into it, and not to go that far yet.

Today the billing department called back and said that since my wife called her doctor, the supervisor of billing would not allow her to adjust the two bills and now we owe for all four again.

I believe this is an error on the billing department by not submitting to all insurances. I don’t believe these bills should be our responsibility, my wife was covered by three insurances at the time of treatment and nothing was paid?

It appears dealing with the clinic billing department got us nowhere, should I continue up the ladder at the clinic. Should I contact an attorney? Any and all advice is appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
