| For the most part, yes, though some doctors misinterpret HIPAA and believe they only need to/are allowed to release the records that originated in that office, not copies of records from other doctors, or test results etc. But that's a misinterpretation. If you request all your records, you should get all your records. Expect to have to pay reasonable copying fees.

| In addition to what ecmst stated, a Physician may use his/her discretion in releasing psychiatric notes to a patient. They are permitted withhold psychiatric records if they feel the release of said records would be harmful to the health and well being of the patient.
