prescription denied because of age

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Arkansas

My mother's insurance is now allowing a certain prescription (heartburn med) to a certain age group, anyone over that age (which she is) is now denied. Can they do that?

There is no law preventing them from doing so. Perhaps there is another medication that would be more appropriate for her age group, has she spoken to her doctor about it?

She can always pay for her preferred prescription, if she chooses.

If it's Aciphex, then there are several prescription and non-prescription alternatives which (allegedly) work just as well.

I am not medically-trained in even the most strained definition of the term.

I'm sure her doctor can get her a prescription that is covered and works just as well, she just needs to ask. My wife had same thing happen to her
