I was laid off on April 20, 2006 and my regular group coverage ended 4/30/06. I have kept my options open regarding COBRA extension and the deadline is 8/11/06. My entire family is squeaky clean with respect to pre-existing conditions, no treatments or medical events or even prescriptions in the past two years - until two weeks ago. My wife went to the doctor and got a PAP test performed and the test came back "Slightly Abnormal". The doctor made no diagnosos, no recommendations, no prescriptions - just gave instructions to have another test taken in six months. Does this event present a pre existing condition? If so, what type of coverage could a future provider deny as a result? Does the presence of an inconclusive test now make any future GYN non-covered? This doctor visit was not submitted to any insurance company, how would they even know this test existed. This could turn out to be a self-inflicted $3000 PAP test. I need to get on to an individal policy but can't afford to carry the COBRA. Semms to me in the absence of diagnosis, treatment, prescription or any other act, what would be the pre existing condition other than being alive?
