State Medicaid transfering....

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas

I have a chronically ill child on Texas CCP medicaid. We are currently in-patients at Children's hospital Dallas. They plan on sending us home soon. We need a second opinion by the best before we do a surgery that is permanent and will affect her the rest of her life. I can cover the costs for traveling and lodging but I need her medicaid to pay for the Dr's visits. She is on SSI and is disabled. I will be going to Children's hospital in Boston to see their GI department. Can I get medicaid to cover the medical fees?

In Massachussets???? I don't see that happening. You may want to find someone at least in the state to give you a second opinion.

So you think I should transfer her to Houston first? We have seen all the GI docs here at the medical director agrees with the decision. The GI specialty lab is in Boston. I am just at my wits end. Maybe I could get a grant or something from the hospital?

I'm saying you can't expect the taxpayers of the State of Texas to foot the bill for you to take your child all over the country for medical treatment, no matter how noble the cause. Children's Hospital in Boston probably doesn't even HAVE a contract with Texas Medicaid, and they aren't going to sign a contract for one child.

What I am saying is that if you want a consult with a doctor in Mass, then you need to be prepared to pay for it.

I'm very sorry your child is ill.
