Is there deductible for Mother & Baby? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? FL Hi everyone, We recently had a baby (yes, its wonderful) and I started to receive all sorts of bills from the hospital and various other providers. I'm the primary on the health insurance provided by my employer and my wife is a dependent. We have a deductible of $500/person and $1000/family. My wife has already met her $500 deductible for the year when she was admitted for labor. But today I received a statement from Hospital for a claim that was submitted to my insurance for my baby. The charges included a $500 deductible for the baby. Isn't the baby covered under mother's insurance for the first 30 days? If so, would there be additional deductible for the baby? I'm under the assumption that there would not be any deductible for the baby as he is covered by the mom's insurance for 30 days. Am I wrong?? Can you please clarify? Appreciate your replies.. Thanks Kamal |

| No, we cannot clarify as we have not read your policy. There is no one-size-fits-all answer; it depends entirely on the terms of your specific insurance policy. You will need to ask your HR or your Benefits department. |

| Apparently you are wrong. Baby is NOT covered under mom's insurance, baby gets his/her own ID number and is his/her own person from the DOB on. So baby has a separate deductible.
