I have what I think is a very serious situation. I am married to an illegal alien, and I found out the day after we were married that the SS# he is using is not his, which I understand is pretty common, I don't think it is right at all and we are divorcing because of that and a few other things... anyways, he has insurance through his employer and has had for apprx. 2 years now. From what I am to understand he gave the insurance company a false SS#(the one he has been using) when he first got this job, well when we got married we had to fill out a new application to add me to the policy and we left off his ss# on the new application because he doesn't have one. I had called the insurance company prior to the doctor appt to find out how my doctor would bill them if there wasn't a SS# and he is the primary insured, they told me that my doctors office could use my SS# or the group/contract number. So I went to the appt they billed the insurance and it was rejected. My doc called me and I in turn called the insurance company and they told me it is because he doesn't have a SS# and his name didn't match what the insurance company had in their database, the name was easy to fix, but the ss# they knew he didn't have one. The girl on the phone said that my husband had submitted claims in the past with a SS# and they were paid, but if he didn't have a SS# he would have to submit a letter stating he had no SS# and they would have to use a special identifier to process his claims, well since we are going thru this divorce I asked the girl to contact him directly, which she obviously did. A week later I called to follow up on the whole deal to make sure my doctor got paid and i was told that the claim was being processed now and he had a SS# entered and all was well???? I asked how that could be? She(the ins. agent) told me they used the number from his last claim about a year ago and all is fine now.... I had told them that whatever number they have is incorrect, she said they verified it last year and that was that. How is it that one week previously I was told he had no ss# and now he miraculously has one? Isn't that insurance fraud? Him providing a ss# that isn't his to get his claims paid? Is it that the insurance company doesn't care because he is paying his monthly premiums of 600.00 a month? I don't want to be on his insurance and we are still legally married and I don't want to be a part of this whole fraud? What do I do? What can I do to alert the insurance company? or do they not care? What and how do they verify that a person is who they say they are? I have told them that isn't his number but the girl that answers the phone really doesn't care, she basically shuffled me off the phone, so now what? I am afraid that I will be part of this sham and I am not at all. I am trying to do the right thing here and basically I am being ignored... Can someone please tell me if this is fraud? and if yes, what do I do? I can only imagine that I will be the one to pay for his deceit at some point, and I want nothing to do with it. Please, can someone direct me?
