I work for a large city in Ca. When I call in sick I am required to tell my employer 1) where I will be confined. 2)nature of illness.
If I just say "i am not feeling well" my boss will ask "what is wrong with you". if i refuse to tell them my medical problem they will give me a written letter in my file for sick leave abuse. I feel my medical problems are none of my employers business. I feel that i should be able to call in sick without my medical problem being spread all over the office, which happens. Is my medical reason for calling in sick confidental? can my employer require me to disclose my illness?
