My boyfriend currently works for a large movie store chain part-time. They are now training him as a store manager and have offered him his choice of several different stores that need managers. His district manager keeps telling him that if he takes the store he wants then he will have to relocate but the store is only about an hour drive from his home and he is willing to drive farther for work. If he performs his job duties and is arriving on time then can they make him move? I don't understnad why it matters to them where he lives as long as he is doing his job.

An employer cannot force an employee to do anything. However, perhaps the employer mandates the manager living closer because of being on call or some other reason. They are within their legal rights to do so. There is no law being violated here. It may or not be fair in you BF's eyes, but it isn't illegal. If he doesn't like the requirement, he can quit.
