I work for a large Fortune500 company. I have been working remotely, telecommuting from my home in Alabama for the last 7 years. I am ranked at the top within my job level. Recently, the company I work for has changed its policy to no longer allow telecommuting. They are offering all telecommuters a very meager relocation package. If the employee is unwilling or unable to relocate, then the company indicated that they would consider this an employee resignation. Is this legal? It seems like it would be better if they fired me. My job has not changed and I have performed it excellently so far.

Many thanks!

but is getting fired better?

Thank you for the reply. I guess I was not exactly clear in the orginal question. Given the circumstances, and given that apparently I cannot be forced to resign, is it better to resign or to be laid off/fired?
