a guy i worked with was out in public talking badly about our supervisor, and our supervisors friend heard him and went back and told her(our super). he got fired the next day. can she do that? he has a right to speak his mind and he wasn't on company time. thanks

Yes, he has a right to speak his mind. But likewise, she has a right to fire him. Unless he is prepared to PROVE, and the burden will be on him, that someone else of a different protected group was treated differently for the exact same thing, this was not illegal.
