Oh my gosh, no!!

It's absolutely illegal in California for an employer to fire an employee after a Christmas party. Your friend's case is worth millions of dollars!

In case you didn't see the Sarcasm Blue Light flashing over IAAL's post (sorry if I'm spoiling the fun, guys) yes, it is perfectly legal for your "friend's" company to fire him after an altercation with a co-worker, regardless of whether it was after the Christmas party or not.

He's lucky he lives in California. In any other state this sort of claim would be worth $1.48.
