Today my former employer in Pennsylvania offered a different positon to me. When I was laid-off, I received 2 weeks' severance and 2.5 weeks' vacation. I was unemployed for 8 weeks. How likely are they to ask me to return all/part of the severance & vacation pay? Is it acceptable for me to suggest that the 4.5 weeks' compensation was less than the 8 weeks that I was unemployed? Can I negotiate with them (I'll return the vacation pay, if they'll reinstate my accrued vacation but I'll keep the severance, etc.)? Thanks!

I think you're lying down before anyone hits you. It is extremely unlikely that they will ask you to return the severance/vacation pay if the combined total of them is equal to less than the time you were out.
