I live in California. I was just fired today for insubordination. I was a courier using my personal vehicle for work. My boss wanted me to train another courier, whom I had never met before, on my route in my car. I did not want to do so for two reasons. First and most importantly I did not want to accept liability for another worker. Secondly, I did not feel safe having someone in my car that I didn't know. Especially after he had just hired and fired someone that made a very racist and threatening comment to another employee. Does he have the right to ask that I accept liability for someone when I don't want to and that I do something that makes me feel unsafe? And does the company have the right to fire me for this? Do I have any kind of legal standing? Any help is appreciated.
