We live in Maryland. My husband just found out early this week that his company took away one week's vacation from him that he had in previous years. They gave him no notice. We were going to go to Massachusetts for Thanksgiving. Because he has no leave left (he thougt he did, of course), he was planning on working a half day Wednesday and taking off Friday without pay. Now they tell him today that if he takes off Friday, they will consider that as him having quit his job. Can he do anything about this at all?

Legally, they could do that. Tacky at best, though, and insensitive and petty at worst.

Maryland is not one of the few states in which earned vacation is unconditionally vested.
