What is the name of your state? california
my employer has mandated I carry a cell phone.
This obligates me to a contract, early termination fee, and
a bill in my mailbox every month. The business portion is reimbursed.
The company has said they would cover the termination fee, should me employment status change. After cleaning up a financial disaster and
suffering a poor FICO score, I'm hesitant to extend any further credit
related obligations. The company currently covers a assigned pager
without all the fuss. What are my obligations to the company ?

you should ask your employer for a written agreement that they will cover your cell phone termination expenses, regardless of the reason for employment. we do that here.
